ClipChaos and Gumroad for Indian creators: fees, payments and payouts compared
By ClipChaos · Last checked 13 October 2026
Gumroad sells digital products internationally: its pricing page lists fees in US dollars and says it handles sales tax worldwide as the merchant of record. ClipChaos is built for Indian buyers paying in rupees by UPI. They suit different sellers, and this page sets out the differences using each company's own published pricing.
Fees side by side
| ClipChaos | Gumroad | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee on a sale from your own link | 8%, gateway charges included | 10% + $0.50 per transaction |
| Fee on a sale from the platform's marketplace | 8% (the same) | 30% per transaction |
| Monthly fee | None | None |
| Currency buyers pay in | Indian rupees | See Gumroad's site |
Gumroad's figures are from its pricing page, checked on 2026-10-13. That page does not say whether card processing is charged on top; check Gumroad's help pages before relying on a total.
A flat fee per sale matters most on low prices. On a ₹99 product, ClipChaos's fee is ₹7.92. A fee of 10% plus a fixed $0.50 takes a much larger share of a ₹99 sale than of a ₹2,000 one.
Where ClipChaos fits better
- Your buyers are in India and expect to pay by UPI.
- Your prices are low (under about ₹500), where a fixed per-sale fee hurts.
- You want listings and support in an Indian context, including an automatic Hindi version of each listing.
Where Gumroad fits better
- Your buyers are outside India. ClipChaos does not accept international cards yet.
- You sell memberships. Gumroad's pricing page lists them; ClipChaos sells one-time downloads only.
- You want to be found on a marketplace outside India. Gumroad's pricing page lists its own marketplace, at the 30% fee above; ClipChaos's marketplace is new and its buyers are in India.
- You want sales tax on sales abroad handled for you. Gumroad's pricing page says it does this as the merchant of record.
- You need payouts that arrive on a fixed schedule without asking. ClipChaos payouts are sent by our team within 3 working days of your asking for one; check Gumroad's site for how it pays out.
Using both
Nothing stops you from listing on both: one link for buyers in India who pay by UPI, another for buyers abroad. Keep the price and the file the same so nobody feels they got a worse deal.
Common questions
- Is ClipChaos cheaper than Gumroad?
- On fees alone, for a sale from your own link: ClipChaos charges 8% with gateway charges included, and Gumroad's pricing page lists 10% + $0.50 (checked 2026-10-13). Which is cheaper overall depends on your price and where your buyers are.
- Can buyers outside India buy from ClipChaos?
- Not yet. Checkout accepts UPI, Indian cards and netbanking. If most of your buyers are abroad, a platform built for international cards is the better fit today.
- Can I move my products from Gumroad?
- There is no import tool. You upload each file and write its listing; a product is live as soon as you publish it.
