How to sell a PDF or ebook in India
By ClipChaos · Last checked 13 October 2026
A PDF is the simplest digital product there is: you already know something useful, you write it down once, and it can be bought any number of times. This guide covers what makes a PDF worth paying for, how to price it for Indian buyers, and how to get paid by UPI without chasing screenshots.
Pick a problem, not a topic
"Personal finance" is a topic. "How to file your first income tax return as a freelancer" is a problem someone has this week. People pay to have a specific problem solved, so name the reader and the result in the title.
A good test: could a stranger tell from the title alone whether it is for them? If not, narrow it.
Make it short enough to finish
- Aim for the fewest pages that solve the problem. Twenty useful pages beat two hundred padded ones.
- Open with a one-page summary of what the reader will be able to do.
- Use real examples with real numbers: a filled-in template teaches more than a paragraph.
- Export as PDF with selectable text, not page images, so it can be searched and read on a phone.
Price it for a first-time buyer
Most first purchases from a creator the buyer has never heard of are small. A price between ₹99 and ₹499 is easy to say yes to; a price above ₹999 usually needs a sample, reviews or an existing audience behind it.
If you have no audience yet, give away a short version for free. A free product collects the email of everyone who downloads it, and those people hear about your paid product when it launches.
Write a listing that answers the buyer's questions
- Who it is for, in the first line.
- What is inside: page count, chapters, any templates or checklists.
- What they will be able to do after reading it.
- A cover image that shows the title clearly at small size.

What to know before you start
- Buyers outside India cannot pay yet: checkout accepts UPI, Indian cards and netbanking only.
- You ask for a payout once ₹100 is ready, and it is sent by our team within 3 working days of your asking for one, to your UPI ID or bank account. Payouts are not automatic.
- Earnings from a new product are released once that product has been checked.
- One file per product. There are no subscriptions, memberships or live sessions.
- You can replace a product's file after publishing. Buyers get the new file the next time they download, and our team checks the listing again.
Common questions
- Can I sell a PDF without a website?
- Yes. Your ClipChaos store page is your website: one link you can put in your Instagram bio, WhatsApp status or YouTube description.
- How do buyers in India pay for a PDF?
- By UPI, Indian debit or credit card, or netbanking through Razorpay. The download opens straight after payment and is also emailed.
- Can someone share my PDF after buying it?
- A download link works for 30 days and 20 downloads, which stops casual link sharing. No platform can stop a determined person from forwarding a file; pricing fairly is the practical answer.
- What does ClipChaos charge?
- A flat 8% of each sale, payment gateway charges included, with no monthly fee. On a ₹499 sale the fee is ₹39.92.
